Last Bible Study we talked about Blessing of Belonging In Christ. The title for tonight’s Bible Study is BLESSINGS AMID TRIALS
LESSON TEXT: James 1:1-8, 12-18
GOLDEN TEXT (James 1:12): “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation; for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him”
Aim to understand that the purpose of trials and temptations is to develop patience.
Principle to teach that trials and temptations in the lives of believers help make them strong in their faith.
Application: To help students learn to endure trials and temptations knowing that the Lord is perfecting their faith.
INTRODUCING THE LESSON: This week’s lesson introduces us to the truth that there is a purpose in the trials we face. That purpose is to make us strong in our faith. Almost everyone knows someone who is a faithful and strong believer in Jesus but whose problems in life never seem to go away. We all wonder why such a good person has to go through those difficult circumstances. It is truly a mystery until we begin to realize the ways God uses to perfect us.
LESSON OUTLINE:
- AN INFORMATIVE GREETING (James 1:1). James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
- TRIALS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT (James 1:2-4). My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations: knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
- TRIALS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT (James 1:5-8). If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the LordMy brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations: knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
- THE REWARD FOR THOSE WHO ENDURE (James 1:12-16). Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, beingeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren.
- EVERYTHING PERFECT COMES FROM GOD (James 1:17-18). Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. Of his own will, begat he us with the word of truth, that we would be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
ANTICIPATING THE NEXT LESSON: Please read II Corinthians 1:3-11. In our next lesson, we will look at the “Blessing of God’s Comfort”
