Last Bible Study we talked about Blessings of God’s Comfort. The title for tonight’s Bible Study is BLESSING OF GODLINESS
LESSON TEXT: II Peter 1:3-14
GOLDEN TEXT (II Peter 1:8): “For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ”
Aim to show the resources we have as Christians to live godly lives.
Principle to understand that God has already provided us with all that we need to live godly lives.
Application: to learn to use the resources God gives us to live the way God wants us to.
INTRODUCING THE LESSON: Over and over again we hear the claim that Christianity takes the fun out of life. But in reality, that is not true. It is exciting to discover what God can do for us daily when we fully trust Him. When we lean on our Lord Jesus for all that we need, we can live a godly life of exciting faith. Our lesson this week shows us that God has not left us alone to somehow find a way to live a godly life. He has already put all the resources in place for us to succeed.
LESSON OUTLINE:
- JESUS HAS ALREADY GIVEN US HIS RESOURCES FOR GODLY LIVING (II Peter 1:3-4). According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
- GROWING IN CHRIST LEADS TO PRODUCTIVE GODLINESS (II Peter 1:5-9). And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
- SHOW YOURSELVES AS CHRISTIANS AS YO UENTER THE ETERNAL KINGDOM (II Peter 1:10-11). Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure; for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: for so an entrance hall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
- REMEMBER THE WORD OF GOD (II Peter 1:12-14). Wherefore I will not be negligent to put you always in remembrance of these things, though ye know them, and be established in the present truth. Yea, I think it meet, as long as I am in this tabernacle to stir you up by putting you in remembrance; Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me.
